Two more smaller subgenres existed as well, the first being Urban Blues. It started in the mid-to-late s and featured big band riff accompaniments and features the saxophone more prominently.
The other subgenre was Instrumental Blues, in which s instrumental groups played in a blues style. This then served as a basis for improvisation and the genres that spilled off from it.
